FROM THE PAST TO NOW: THE LONDON MUSEUM

Upcoming Museum: The London Museum (formerly known as Museum of London). Be Lean - Be Clean - Be Green - Be Londoner! The closing of The Museum of London marks en of an era but also re-opening of the museum says a lot! The London Museum is already the new black!
As museologists, we are excited about the strategic process of the museum, which is planned to open in 2026, and the publication of the project's progress on the official website of the Museum of London! We are partnering in the transformation of an important museum and this time we have a chance to follow the process! We will be able to observe not only the architecture and design part, but also the sustainability of a museum and all the possibilities it wishes to offer for its visitors. One of the main striking elements, the fact that the museum is not in a new building or a palace or mansion as we are used to in museum identities in London, but in an area to be revived like a phoenix in the area where the old market place structures are located in West Smithfield. Although the chosen location forms a whole with the commercial 'past' of the region, it will also have a different value for today: Sharon Ament, the director of The Museum of London, made the following statements: "This will be more than a museum, it will tell the story of all Londoners – past, present and future; it will be a new civic space for millions of visitors to enjoy, 24 hours a day, and it will be a living, breathing building that buzzes with the energy of Londoners." 24 hours a day! It's intriguing!
The steps taken for The London Museum are not really a new development. Since 2015, the team has worked hard for this transformation. In 2015, they evaluated the alternatives offered for relocation proposals – for every field involved in museology – from all aspects (we mean in every aspect such as the relocation process, architectural requirements, collection preservation, storages, exhibition areas, visitors' attitudes, transportation, etc.). In 2016, they organize an international architectural competition and they prefer Stanton Williams Architects and Asif Khan with Julian Harrap Architects. The new museum will be one of the highlights of the 'Culture Mile'. In 2021, the Museum of London announced that the Prince of Wales has become its Patron. So the vision and the museum's sensitivity to the climate crisis in the process we live in, and accordingly the "Be Lean - Be Clean - Be Green" energy model, the renewal of the market place structures in its new location became a priority.

To be used in the construction of the new location of the London Museum in July 2022, It was announced that three major donations totaling £7 million from The Garfield Weston Foundation (£5m), The Schroder Foundation and Family (£1m) and the Wolfson Foundation (£1m). The three donations bring the museum's funding close to its initial £40 million target. -The desired target has not yet been fully achieved.- The important part for us here is that the museum team carries out the process in parallel with the architectural team. They control all the details. This is important for this issue: In many museum designs, architectural firms do not know the museum collection and functioning of the museum, and then showing up with a "structure" that makes the museum experience quite difficult for visitors. That's why we're thrilled!
In the summer of 2022, the relocation process will officially begin and it looks like they will make a comeback in 2026 with an ambitious museum to share with all Londoners and the entire world as they aim, sure. You can click here to follow the process of the museum and review other details!

NEW TYPES OF MUSEUMS NOT ACCEPTABLE BY ACADEMICS: POP-UP MUSEUMS AND NFT MUSEUM

One of our museologist academics who also contributed to the construction of many museums and one of the active names in ICOM, stated that she never thought of Pop-Up museums in the category of museums and refused to teach about them within the scope of master's program courses. She doesn't even mention NFT and museums anyway. Do you think that academics' rejection of a type of museum category is reason enough to ignore that type of museum? Of course not. We started talking like Graham Hancock in the Ancient Apocalypse series . Why might some museum categories have difficulty gaining acceptance? What depends on the acceptance of a museum's genre? Based on the data, we mentioned that there are over 104,000 museums in the world. This number is increasing and there are various categories of museums in the world. Do you know the types and categories of museums? Even if you knew by now, new types of museums are still emerging, for example, have you ever heard of the worl

SUSTAINABILITY IMPACT IN SPORT AND CULTURAL TOURISM: FIFA MUSEUM AND FIFA WORLD CUP 2022

Hyundai Motor Company today opened the FIFA Museum in Doha, Qatar. Sport tourism can be defined simply as travel to a destination to experience sport. It is leisure-based tourism that takes people temporarily outside their home environment to participate in or watch physical activities or venerate attractions associated with physical activities (Gibson, 1998). Sport is unifying. It evokes many emotions in people. Therefore, it has always been able to maintain its importance. Sport in general, and major sport events in particular, have a special role to play in supporting sustainability. Building venues and infrastructure, gathering hundreds of thousands of people from all corners of the globe, accommodating and feeding them has an inherent environmental impact. Whilst the footprint is hard to determine quantitatively over an extended period of time, according to official figures, the FIFA World Cups in South Africa in 2010 and Brazil in 2014 generated close to 2.8 millions tons of CO2e
